About the Team

We are the definition of underdogs. We play with so much heart and spirit, and we’re waiting for the day that our winning spirit turns into a winning record. We’ve been together for 2 seasons, going on 3 now, and we’ve grown so much in those 2 years. Our first summer, we had to teach a lot of our teammates the basics of the game, including where to go after (realistically if) you hit the ball, how to not overrun second base, how to keep your eyes open when catching a ball (an important lesson after one girl got a concussion). Our first year, we had a former cricket player, now bodybuilder, on our team who terrified the other teams by sprinting to first base with the bat in his hand. We also a player who would accidentally throw her bat into the bleachers after she swung, which would be intimidating if she had ever made contact the ball. Despite these quirks, we were able to squeak out our first win in our second season, and you’d think that we had just won the World Series because of how loud we cheered! We’ve been told by the other teams in this league that we’re their favorite to play against, because we’re truly just there to have fun, be active, and shotgun Labatts. After every game, we head over to our favorite local dive bar, appropriately named Winners, and it is honestly the highlight of a lot of our summers to cram into one table and share some cold ones. Our team color is light blue, but we are more than ready to make the switch to Labatt Blue. Most of us met each other at Wayne State University in Detroit, so the spirit of Detroit runs through us all! I’ve attached my favorite of our team pictures to this application. We take pictures more than any other team, which is confusing to most people because we lose more than any other team, but we just love to have fun with our friends, so why not capture that! My favorite picture isn’t one of us at home plate, but it’s us after drinking together in the dugout and getting mercied in the playoffs by our nemeses. Last year, the league had a rule where you couldn’t get mercied in the playoffs, but because our game against this team lasted an extra hour in the cold rain last year, they changed the league’s official rules. So yeah, you could say we make history on the field. After our game, we found where the ref was keeping the trophies and decided that even though we didn’t win the league in points, we won in spirit, so we made sure to get a picture with the first place trophy before handing them over to the real winners. Right after this, we tailgated in the parking lot before heading over as a team one last time to Winners.
